Derek Pilling

Derek joined Faction in 2020, and has since supported the company’s growth and strategic development in a number of executive roles. Most recently, Derek was appointed as Chief Executive Officer concurrent with the completion of a transaction in which Faction became an employee owned and managed business. As CEO, Derek is focused on linking the Faction team’s day-to-day organizational execution with its mission to support organizations in unlocking the power of their data with a data-first architecture for the public cloud.

Derek has been involved in nearly every facet of the company building process in the tech-enabled services space; whether as an advisor, board member, investor, director or executive. Before joining Faction, Derek co-founded Workhorse Capital in 2016, where he sponsored several technology enabled services investments. Derek continues to represent Workhorse on the Boards of Directors of Datavail, Inc. and Traackr, Inc. Derek graduated from Indiana University’s undergraduate Business School and The Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, where he graduated with honors.
